About the Area
About Kihei
Kihei is beach-combing territory on Maui’s southwest shore, the sunniest, driest end of the island. Once a regular destination for sojourning Hawaiian royalty, Kihei features six miles of beaches, which offer clear views of Kahoolawe, Molokini, Lanai and West Maui. Along with swimming and surfing you can also find great snorkeling and kayaking, and you may even spot a giant humpback whale spouting or breaching the ocean’s surface.

About Maui
Stretching across Maui’s southern and eastern coastline, Haleakala National Park is home to Maui’s highest peak. Rising 10,023 feet above sea level, Haleakala’s graceful slopes can be seen from just about any point on the island. Haleakala means “house of the sun” in Hawaiian, and legend has it that the demigod Maui lassoed the sun from its journey across the sky as he stood on the volcano’s summit, slowing its descent to make the day last even longer.
Maui is an island in the mid-Pacific, part of the Hawaiian island chain and known for its beach resorts, diverse geography and outdoor activities ranging from hiking and biking to windsurfing and snorkeling. Sprawling Haleakala National Park encompasses the island’s highest peak, Mt. Haleakala, as well as the pools and waterfalls of Oheo Gulch, accessed via scenic, winding Hana Highway.

Lahaina
Once known as Lele, which means “relentless sun” in Hawaiian, Lahaina is a historic town that has been transformed into a Maui hot spot with dozens of art galleries and a variety of unique shops and restaurants.
Once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the early nineteenth century, Lahaina was also a historic whaling village during the whaling boom of the mid-1800’s. Up to 1,500 sailors from as many as 400 ships took leave in Lahaina including Herman Melville, who immortalized the era in his classic novel Moby Dick.

Molokini Island
Molokini is a small, crescent moon-shaped island that is a State Marine Life and Bird Conservation District. Lying only three miles from Maui’s southwestern coast, Molokini spans over 18 acres and rises 160 feet above reef-filled waters, offering visitors snorkeling and diving amongst a kaleidoscope of coral and more than 250 species of tropical fish.
Tours are available from nearby Maalaea Harbor and Lahaina. Early morning is the best time of day to explore this pristine reserve, and whale watching is an added bonus during the winter months. If you’re a scuba or snorkeling enthusiast, a visit to Molokini is a Maui must.

Glen’s favorite things to do
I’ve been coming to this great island paridise so long I must be older than some of the volcanoes in the area. I’ve seen some things evolve and some things stay the same, but Maui just keeps getting better every time I visit.
The beaches speak for themselves: relaxing, soft and beautiful - your stress melts away the minute you dip your toes in the sand. There is never a shortage of activities like golf and snorkeling, and the wife and I are always discovering new towns to explore or trails to hike.
And dining choices are endless. Delicious restaurants ranging from five star ocean side establishments to the quaint shaved ice hut that seems to always attract a line of thirsty tourists excited to taste their famous treat. I have a list of my favorite things to do while you are staying here but don’t let this limit you.
Find your own favorites and e-mail me at glen@glensmauicondos.com if you find a treasure you would like me to add to the list.
Mahalo!
Ululani’s Shave Ice
I don’t know why but these guys are really magical when it comes to serving shaved ice. There is always a line of excited customers but you don’t have to wait too long, and the result is a refreshing delirious cool treat you are going to want to return several times for.
And on some days when the sun is hot its the perfect place to wind up after an extended romp on the beach. Within walking distance from the condos, whether that is a good thing or a bad thing depends on how hooked you get!

Maui Golf Courses
Now I’m not the best golfer in the world but for all you swingin’ lovers, you just can’t go wrong at Makena golf course in the Makena Resort. Not only is it challenging and professional but each hole is gorgeous with either a water view or framed by lush tropical foliage.
The GPS in the golf carts give you a quick 20 second run down at each hole with the tips and tricks (which is very helpful). The staff are amazing, friendly and very accommodating and will usually find a tee time for even an old hacker like me.

Yee’s Orchard & Fruit Stand
Okay, you want an inside tip? I’ll give you the best one. That is Yee’s Orchard and Fruit Stand, located on South Kihei Road and is not very eye catching, almost easily missed. It opens after 11 AM and closes on Mondays and Fridays. You have to taste the mangoes to appreciate their quality. Not fibrous or tough but soft and totally delirious like a peach. I don’t know their secret formula but man!
I always make a stop every trip before we settle in to vacation mode. Enjoy!
Farmer's Market Kihei
Across the street from our condo, all you'll need to get there is your own two feet. This lovely farmer's market is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM. This farmers market has local organic produce, you cannot miss this amazing slice of Maui.
